What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Calvary Chapel Socorro based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—equal in power and glory. This Triune God is the Creator of all things, upholds all, and governs all. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Hebrews 9:14)

We Believe the Scriptures Are the Inspired Word of God

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, completely true in their original form. The Bible is our ultimate authority for faith and practice, and it is the foundation upon which our church operates. We affirm that the King James Version is the most accurate translation from the original texts. (Isaiah 28:13; Nehemiah 8:8; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:21)

We Believe in the Sanctity of Marriage

We believe that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, defined as the exclusive union of one genetic male and one genetic female. We affirm that sexual relations are reserved for the context of marriage, and that all sexual activities outside of this covenant, including adultery, fornication, and homosexuality, are contrary to God's design. (Genesis 2:24; 1 Corinthians 5:11; 6:9-20; Romans 1:18-32)

We Believe in God the Father

We believe in God the Father, an infinite and personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. He is intimately involved in the lives of His people, answering prayers and providing salvation to all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalms 90:2; Psalms 102:27; John 4:24; 1 Timothy 1:17)

We Believe in Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. We believe in His sinless life, His miracles, His teachings, His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to heaven, and His future return to judge the world. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-14; John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 1:8)

We Believe in the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit

We believe that every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who serves as our constant helper, teacher, and guide. (John 14:16-17; John 16:8-11)

Ressurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
